Its the first of december, NaNoWriMo has ended and I decided to write on, but what a start! On the very first day of december I forgot – forgot! – my laptop. The cover was in my bag but no laptop in it. Great! That is not good! No, not at all! This means I have to write when I come home late after my chinese lesson today. Otherwise it goes all down to hell. I know myself too good for that.
Maybe my subconscious mind wants me to take a break? I didn’t forget my laptop on a single day in november, hmmm …
But no, sir, no break for me. A good soldier doesn’t need a break or do you see any honey bees on vacation? No, no, no break for me, sir. It’ll be early enough to take a break when I’m dead. And the other way around is true as well, sir, taking a break means dying to me, sir.
Just joking, it’s not that bad. But pressure and routine helps a lot to stay discplined and the pressure of NaNoWriMo is gone now that’s why I wanted to keep the routine of writing every day. I think it is also a good plan to keep the daily word count of 2000 words a day. Like this I can keep the NaNoWriMo routine.
And I have even more plans for december! I want to use some of the NaNoWriMo winner advantages this year! I planned to buy Scrivener for I get 50 percent as a winner. Finally get some writing tools and write like a real professional author!
How am I working now you might ask? As I’m also a programmer some of my colleagues asked me if I’m writing in LaTex, but no I don’t . I did my master thesis with it and didn’t like it so much. I’m a microsoftie through and through (but yes, I also have a Macbook Air, an iPad and an iPhone) and love to write in microsoft word. But scrivener can import and export word files. Like this I don’t have to change much.
I even did my planning in – don’t laugh! – power point, because you can draw nice diagrams in it. I would have done the planning in Visio, but I don’t have it at home or on my macbook. I did a slide for every day of storyline and have some slides for how the characters are related to each other and some more for the locations of the story. I would also like to have a drawing board at home (to draw with the hands and not the computer!), but I don’t have enough space for it (we don’t have so many free and even walls in our flat) and I would always have to digitize the different states of drawing by taking a picture or so.
Hopefully I write this evening and the writing chain doesn’t break (but I also have to check some documents for work tonight as well – oO!). Nothing is lost right now, I cross my fingers and hug my Macbook when I get home. Sorry for forgetting you, dear Macky!
